Glass artist Tamás Ábel graduated exactly ten years ago, in 2015, from the Glass Department of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. This anniversary also marks a turning point in his artistic journey, offering an opportunity to define new directions for the future.

Our exhibition seeks to present the transformations taking place in his art while also recalling the past decade through selected works. The title itself refers to these ongoing processes. We are living in a time of accelerated environmental and technological transformation, but our own continuous physical changes are struggling to keep pace with the speed and scale of these changes. Despite the ever-growing number of social media platforms and chat applications, we may find ourselves increasingly lonely and depressed if we dive without restraint or balance into the merciless doomscrolling of the endless, glittering digital realm—burning out our retinas night after night. Our addictive tendencies draw us toward anything that distances us, even briefly, from reality, daily tasks, and troubling thoughts. These everyday dependencies can provide fleeting happiness or temporary relief from burdens, helping us through difficult periods.

The exhibition narrates the story of Tamás Ábel’s own transformation through glass sculptures, images, and large-scale site-specific installations made from glass fibres. It reflects on how slowly and arduously he learned to recognise and transform his various addictions, intolerances, traumas, and their consequences—be they related to food and drink, gaming, the desire for possession, disorder, or loneliness. At the same time, it offers a path toward release, connection, and genuine companionship, exploring the possibilities that supported him along the way. These ideas are expressed through a narrative interplay of glass, geometry, and realism.

The works presented were created during an artist-in-residence programme in Veszprém, addressing the causes—bad habits, illness, trauma—and the resolutions—good habits, healing, transformation—through visual artistic expression. Alongside the familiar media of his earlier practice, the exhibition includes glass sculptures, video works, spatial compositions with a sculptural character, site-specific glass installations, and two-dimensional wall pieces.

Building on the progressive technical approaches of his previous works, Tamás Ábel's earlier works, with their progressive technical solutions, continue along the path of glass art in a non-traditional sense that he has been pursuing for some time, and this approach helps in shifting scale and moving between media, e.g., 2D and 3D works or recorded performance video formats.
