VOLCANO LAB

In 2025, the House of Arts Veszprém is launching a new exhibition series that places the spotlight on works from our fine art collection. The first exhibition takes as its inspiration Dezső Szabó’s Volcano, a panel painting created using photographic techniques. From here, the display explores one branch of disaster painting — the dramatic and captivating world of volcanoes.

What makes this exhibition distinctive is its dialogue between past and present. Alongside rare book treasures and 19th-century paintings by Miklós Barabás and Károly Kisfaludy, visitors will also encounter contemporary artworks created over the past twenty years on the theme of volcanoes. Together, these works create a powerful bridge between historical art and today’s mediated visual culture.
