As Advent approaches, the House of Arts is once again placing the focus on natural simplicity, creativity, and sustainability. On four consecutive Wednesdays, we welcome visitors to workshop sessions that help rethink holiday preparations—whether it’s decorating, gift-giving, or planning the festive menu. As part of the “Fragrance Advent” series, our programs held in the Igloo on Kossuth Street also highlight sustainability and creativity.

Christmas Angels

Christmas is unimaginable without acts of kindness and magical angels. In this workshop, we explore shibori fabric dyeing and sashiko stitching—creative Japanese handcraft techniques—and use them to make our own fabric angels. We also learn about the popular furoshiki, the eco-conscious method of gift wrapping. Origami corner with paper angels. Participation is free, and recommended for school-age children with adult assistance. The workshop is supported by instructors from the Furoshiki Section of the Hungarian–Japanese Friendship Society and the team of the House of Arts Veszprém.

Greetings from the Forest

Among the uplifting moments of Christmas is a refreshing walk in the forest. We use evergreens and berry plants found in winter nature and in our gardens to decorate our homes for the holidays. During the workshop, we create herb wreaths, door ornaments, and Christmas candles for a truly festive atmosphere. In our origami corner, we fold paper Christmas trees. We also learn about the popular furoshiki, the sustainable method of gift wrapping. Participation is free, and recommended for school-age children with adult assistance. Supported by instructors from the Furoshiki Section of the Hungarian–Japanese Friendship Society and the BotanicArt Oasis team of the House of Arts Veszprém.

A Christmas from the Past

In this workshop, we explore the creative possibilities hidden in natural materials such as clay, salt dough, beeswax, and gingerbread. Inspired by the patterns of old inscribed bricks preserved at the Tegularium exhibition space of the House of Arts Veszprém, we create monogrammed Christmas ornaments, gift tags, and place cards. We also learn about the popular furoshiki, the sustainable method of gift wrapping. Origami corner with paper stars. Participation is free, and recommended for school-age children with adult assistance. Supported by instructors from the Furoshiki Section of the Hungarian–Japanese Friendship Society and the Tegularium and BotanicArt Oasis teams of the House of Arts Veszprém.
