The Night of Museums is just around the corner! The country’s largest cultural event is held around the summer solstice. We’re preparing a host of interesting programs and exhibitions that will be open until late in the evening for culture lovers.
15:00 Exhibition Opening: Menu: Life/Recipe, Dubniczay Palace / BotanicArt Participatory Space
The gastronomic-cultural exhibition Menu: Life/Recipe places personal stories connected to food, flavours and shared memories at its centre. Created in collaboration with the residents of the House of Inclusion run by the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, the programme features people experiencing homelessness sharing stories in podcast conversations about their food-related experiences and family memories. The artworks created during creative art workshops led by Schéner Ildikó and Judit Hamerli are presented as part of a collective table installation. Visitors will also discover recipes that evoke the diverse taste memories of members of our community. The BotanicArt Oasis team will also participate. https://fb.me/e/7BUmuIJXN
17:00 Back in Time / Be a Model Too! Silhouette Portrait Making, Dubniczay Palace
In the eighteenth century, long before the invention of photography, anyone wishing to commission an affordable portrait of themselves or a loved one had to turn to a silhouette artist. Using nothing more than a sheet of black paper and a pair of scissors, the artist could create a portrait within minutes. The process was as quick as the hurried public activities of Louis XV’s finance minister, Étienne de Silhouette. As a result, his name became synonymous with something quick and inexpensive, giving rise to the term “silhouette”.
In the second half of the eighteenth century, the Swiss pastor Johann Kaspar Lavater concluded that a person’s character traits could be read from the outline of their profile. The art form soon became a favourite pastime at the French royal court. Today, the technique is enjoying a revival as people increasingly value handcrafted works of art in our digitalised world.
Using only paper and scissors, Mátyás Selmetzi will create a lifelike silhouette portrait of you in just three minutes. You may take the finished portrait home.

SONOKALF is the final work in Attila Zámbó’s series created from PET bottles. While most of the previous works were figurative, this final piece is non-representational, open and free in thought. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that a single piece carries the same spirit as the entire series multiplied a hundredfold.
The hundred images can be installed in many ways across different locations, allowing the assembled plastic elements to interact with their surroundings. The creative process began in 2021 and involved the use of approximately three thousand bottles.
