On the last Saturday of August, the Japanese Centre and the House of Arts Veszprém are inviting visitors to a one-day mini festival based on the fusion of Japanese and Hungarian culture.

KYŌ-SŌ – Resonance and Creation

The word Kyō-Sō combines two Japanese characters:

響 (kyō) – sound, echo, resonance

創 (sō) – creation, bringing into being

Our project aims to foster cultural exchange between Japanese and Hungarian artists through music and the visual arts. Beyond building a sustainable model of international cultural cooperation, we seek to expand cultural networks and open new avenues for artistic creation.Born from the meeting of tradition and contemporary cultural values, our new programme series presents authentic Japanese–Hungarian collaborations throughout the year, with events in February, April, August, and November.

The summer thematic day focuses on shodō (calligraphy), sumie (ink painting), suminagashi (ink marbling), sashiko (embroidery), shibori (dyeing), furoshiki (wrapping cloth), and kōdō (the art of incense). Alongside creative workshops, visitors can enjoy a Japanese music concert featuring the Okinawan sanshin, a sake lecture and tasting, film screenings, as well as exhibitions of kimono, fine art, and photography.
