Geometric abstraction is a principle and an inexhaustible artistic potential.  It has undergone an interesting evolution over the last century with many creative values, unique mutations, many syntheses and contrasts, formal and philosophical resonances.  Regardless of current trends this line is always followed by a certain dedicated group of artists.  Many contribute to its development and add new dimensions.  Viktor Hulík is one of them with his innovative and comprehensive interpretation of the subject and thanks to his organisational achievements he is now a central figure in Slovak geometric abstraction.

Geometry is also a world of fundamental shapes and relationships and the way it is explored overlaps with what is so close to the author's creative nature: to capture the essence, to examine it from every angle, to arrange the elements in space, to find all the possibilities, while combining precision, accuracy, conciseness, play, combinatorics and dynamics.

Viktor Hulík's means of representation include defining constants that are present or appear from time to time in his art, from the pre-geometric era to the present day. Spatiality is a dominant feature of his work. For Viktor Hulík, the painter the plane encourages him to step out of it into space. In his plastic reliefs he breaks not only space but also form. In his compositions the spatiality usually relies on the serial, repetitive constant of gradual, intermittent movement with increasingly sophisticated connections. The interplay between the two planes of reality and fiction and the tension between them is always exciting. The journey from the plane to the space.  The visual vibrancy of the image.

In Viktor Hulík's conception colour is an equivalent factor, an important element of expression. It reinforces composition, movement, variability and mystification.  The concept is based on the principle of contrast of primary colours, which is developed along horizontal, vertical, circular and diagonal lines according to the spatial character of the work. Today, he is preoccupied with the inspiring harmony of acromatic black, grey and white, but his large-format computer graphics show the artist's great sense of colour and his ability to compose.

He creates series in all media.  The development of these series is in direct proportion to the direction of his thinking, the layering of ideas and the search for possible artistic solutions.

Viktor Hulík's exhibition "MOVING-GEOMETRY" is an exciting selection in Veszprém at the House of Arts/ Csikász Gallery.  The exhibition is made up of works from the last six years, including several works from 2016.
