Péter Tamás Halász (1969) graduated from the painting department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts as a student of Dóra Maurer in 1998.
Péter Tamás Halász prefers to create special installations designed with engineering precision that point out social, economic and ecological problems. He often makes use of discarded machine parts that were once used but will soon be considered obsolete, but he also works with nobler materials, including granite. The modelling of different physical situations and the unusual combinations of materials and designs are based on a profound questioning. At first glance each work of art brings together layers of meaning that are at once astonishing and surprisingly logical.
In his rationally structured art he also takes a rational approach to the dream, man's most intimate subjective experience. In his new installations he incorporates symbols that evoke the outside world into his motif system, referring to various global political phenomena, computer operating systems, ecosystem problems or human aggression, while at the same time he also includes the most personal memories and experiences in revealing or even concealing representations. He exploits the variability of visual interpretations that result from the alternation of points of view, as well as the symbolic value of language games. Optical phenomena, reflections, sharp light effects, flashing or flickering light effects play an important role in his work. And while depicting physical reality, he also confronts us with the illusory reality of reality. It is in this collapsed condition that we have to recognize ourselves, our personal self: to seek answers to the question of where the boundary between dream and reality lies, how we can find ourselves beyond the symbolic order, beyond the boundaries of reality."
