The exhibition of Ákos Czigány, photographer and Júlia Néma, ceramic designer is based on a unified concept and includes local aspects of Veszprém.
Box and housing. Two ideas, two shapes intertwine in the parallel works of two artists who have inspired each other for many years. The exhibition reflects on this conversation and brings it together.
A conversation in several genres, but in two colours: black, white, black and white. Photographic positives and plastic negatives, cut lines and cut outlines, the second and third dimensions, a dialogue between the most commonplace and the most rarely seen, extreme materials. Delicate relationships between panels, reliefs, sculptures, installations.
The house: box, and each box is a temporary home. Box is the body, but also the vessel from which it draws its nourishment to build itself. The box is consciousness, like its prosthesis, the camera. Everything is concrete, but differently abstract.
Since the first edition of the exhibition (Frankfurt am Main, 2014) the artists have gone further and created their first jointly inscribed group of objects, reflecting on the work of Júlia Néma as a vessel designer and based on the photographs of Ákos Czigány. Also new to the Veszprém exhibition is the collection of plates, which draws on the collection of bricks from the Tegularium, the collection of forms and motifs adjacent to the Castle Gallery.
"If the road is straight, you don't usually go wrong. But if you look through the little window cut into the box, everything looks different. Every detail of the landscape becomes the same, takes on the same significance. [...] Perhaps because the outlines of the objects are blurred in the indeterminate distance, their position has much in common with my position. The magic of the dump. No landscape can bore you when you look at it from a box."
