The essays in this volume are an examination of the situation in Central and Eastern Europe covering the Slavic cultures of the South. They draw on all the experiential orientations that have significantly influenced the work of the featured writers, artists and theorists.

An overview of the problem of inter-ethnic dialogue in Croatian, Serbian and Slovenian contexts can confront the traditional traits influenced by national self-awareness and national identity, so that the approaches and stylistic variations of cultural and regional identity can be brought into communicative contact with each other in the hope of establishing reciprocity. The texts concentrate on the works and creative periods that emerged in different linguistic areas and which unfolded and enriched under the influence of different social contexts, cultural traditions and religious attitudes. The value dimensions that seem to be common, the similar historical perspective, the similar literary and artistic conception are the main nodes that define the dialogueable forms of mutual reflexivity.
