László Cholnoky (Veszprém, 1879 - Budapest, 1929), who quickly changed his rural life for Budapest, but did not finish his academic studies, made a living from writing from the age of twenty-seven.
He was a daily newspaper journalist, and in his last decade he worked for Nyugat, a writer who lived on the income from his fiction alone. He is one of the so-called "fog riders" of Hungarian literature, discovered at the end of the 20th century, and today's readers can recognise him, for example, as Péter Hajnóczy's predecessor.

Among the famous Cholnoky boys, while Jenő (1870) was linked to the 19th century by his outlook and taste, Viktor (1868) was on the border between two worlds, and László (1879) was a modern artist. The heroes of his writings 'plummet from the beginning of the stories to their destruction. They are fallen people, characters in anguish of character, struggling with fatal unhappiness. The death of the will has already happened when we meet them. The theme is most often alcoholism and an unsuccessful, unfulfilled love living in a haze of memories.

The pub is a frequent setting, and the church, the grove or the banks of the Danube often appear, and in the shorter writings the Veszprém, the Séd-patak area - childhood.
