The Veszprém Spring Exhibition is a fine and applied arts exhibition series that has been organized for decades and is recognized nationwide. Its important mission is not only to present artists connected to the city of Veszprém, but also to welcome exhibitors from Veszprém County and the Veszprém–Balaton region.

Organized for many years by the Művészetek Háza Veszprém, the Veszprém Spring Exhibition has, since 2022, been held biennially—every even-numbered year—at the Dubniczay Palace exhibition venue. A new feature is that a thematic exhibition connected to the Spring Exhibition opens at Csikász Gallery. This year, as part of the Spring Exhibition, we present the show Ripening into Gold by ceramic artist Orsolya Pattantyús and glass artist Gergely Pattantyús; in 2024, they were awarded the prize for a solo exhibition.

This year, the central theme of the Veszprém Spring Exhibition is “Arboretum.” The aim of the exhibition is to approach this multifaceted, symbolic, and timely concept through the tools of contemporary art, providing space for various forms of visual thinking. An arboretum (a word derived from the Latin arbor, meaning “living tree”) is primarily a plant collection and botanical garden serving scientific and aesthetic purposes, where trees and shrubs are presented in a systematic way, often in a park-like or natural environment. At the same time, an arboretum symbolizes the relationship between humanity and nature, the intention to classify, cultivate, and preserve, as well as the diversity of the living world.

In this spirit, we announced our open call, which received more than 300 submissions. The works were evaluated by a professional jury—art historians Katalin Izinger (Szent István Király Múzeum, Székesfehérvár) and József Zakar (Kossuth Lajos Múzeum, Cegléd)—who selected 102 works to be presented in our exhibition spaces. This year’s selection is technically highly diverse: in addition to traditional fine art techniques, it includes textile, glass, photography, cameraless photography, digital art, sculpture, video, electrography, ceramics, and various installations.

In connection with the exhibition, we are collaborating with wonderful arboretums such as the Folly Arborétum in Badacsonyörs, the Szépalmapusztai Arborétum founded by Count Endre Pejacsevich, and the Szelestei Arborétum. During the exhibition period, we will offer numerous joint programs together with these arboretums.

The opening of the Spring Exhibition is each year also a celebration of joyful personal encounters. This year, as in previous years, the festive award ceremony will take place following the opening. We warmly invite all artists and art lovers to Veszprém to view the fine and applied art works filling the exhibition spaces of Dubniczay Palace and Csikász Gallery.

We warmly recommend the Veszprém Spring Exhibition to the attention of all art enthusiasts!
