By 2003 Zoltán Brassai had completed his important and gap filling monograph on Géza Gárdonyi, which deals with the figure of Géza Gárdonyi with great humility and care.

Zoltán Brassai (Dr. Gábor Zoltán Kovács; 1948-2018) was a prominent figure in the literary life of Veszprém, a committed and skilled mediator of contemporary world and Hungarian literature. In 2003 he completed this significant and comprehensive monograph on Géza Gárdonyi, which deals with the figure of Géza Gárdonyi with great humility and care.

He dedicated the book to his readers with the following blurb:

"So much lies in my memory, unscripted shapes and milieus. I only have to think back to my childhood."

Gárdonyi was a mysterious man about whom even those close to him generally said that his being was difficult to understand, that he hid from the world, that he did not react to the world's touch as others did, whose strange, self-conscious shyness was looked upon with a mixture of condescension and respect or even smiled at, and yet he was also like most writers. He, too, believed that his themes and motivations came decisively from the beginning of his life. "My character as a writer: my childhood delight in spring, in geese in wheat, in the ice-glass - my lyrical indulgence, my sense of humour, my receptivity to kindness."
