Viktor Cholnoky (1868, Veszprém -1912, Budapest), who created strange Hungarian short story heroes and published magazines on strange subjects, studied law in Győr after high school in Papa and Veszprém, but after finishing his studies he became a journalist in Veszprém, and then from 1901 he was assistant editor of the Pesti Napló. At the end of his life, he published two volumes of short stories (Tammuz, The Blood of the Alerion-Bird), and immediately after his death he became a respected writer through his short stories (from the tales of Néhusztán) and selected articles (Kaleidoscope). His extended family has many important authors, including his brothers Jenő, a geographer, and László, a writer. It is through the work of the three of them that the world of Veszprém and Lake Balaton at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is best known.
