This book is the autobiography of Ernő Mészáros, a renowned academic and climate scientist.

The 2003 chairman of the Veszprém Regional Academic Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences recalls the journey of his childhood, when his family struggled with the hardships of everyday life in the Mocsaras/Swampy vineyard near Csillaghegy/Starhill on the outskirts of the capital amidst great deprivation. In this evocative and readable piece of writing the author takes us on a journey where his unquenchable curiosity and thirst for knowledge enabled him to rise from poverty to the rank of scientist and academic.

The interestingness of the biography, which is also supplemented with documentary photos can be illustrated by the list of chapter titles: The Swampy Vineyard, The Horthy Era - Kelenföld, War and Siege - Democracy, The Cistercians - High School, Career Choice; The Rákosi Era - University Years, Revolution - Work and Family: The Kádár Era - Veszprém; Regime Change.
