The Veszprém Book Week will be opened on 12 June by Gyula Porga, Mayor of the City of Veszprém and music historian Ádám Bősze.

Between 12 and 16 June, the 96th Festive Book Week will take place in the heart of Budapest, along the Danube Promenade and Vörösmarty Square. What makes this year’s event special is that the organiser, the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Booksellers (MKKE), has included regional locations in the programme as well. Alongside Debrecen, Győr, Miskolc, Szeged, and Szolnok, the city of Veszprém has also joined the initiative, offering a rich programme of events.

The Veszprém programme is organised by the House of Arts Veszprém with the support of the Municipality of the City of Veszprém. As in previous years, between 12 and 15 June, from Thursday to Saturday, the public is invited to events on Kossuth Street, in the square in front of the Post Office.

At the book stalls, visitors will be able to purchase new publications from various publishers. In our pop-up antiquarian bookshop, we promote reading by offering free books to take home. This year’s highlighted partner is Scolar Publishing.

On the Festive Book Week stage, there will be author talks and book launches on Thursday and Friday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 pm. Our guests will include, among others, Kata Tisza, Dr András Szuromi, Andrea Illés, and Ottó Fenyvesi. Publications by the Archdiocese of Veszprém, local cultural institutions, and the Vár Ucca Workshop will also be introduced.

On Friday, we will host creative arts activities related to the world of books, and on Saturday, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, we welcome families with children’s and youth-themed workshops and book presentations.

At the Dubniczay Palace, as part of the Olvasólámpa (Reading Lamp) event series, we will commemorate Sándor Molnár, the owner of the Utas és Holdvilág antiquarian bookshop, on Thursday, while on Friday, visitors are invited to a literary evening with wine tasting.
